A man will face court today after he allegedly placed a senior police officer in a chokehold in Sydney's northwest.
About 4.25am today (Saturday 24 May 2025), police were called to a home on Crane Road, Castle Hill, following reports a car had been driving dangerously on the property.
A Chief Inspector attached to The Hills Police Area Command arrived to find car driving on a footpath and directed the driver to stop.
The driver – a 58-year-old man – got out of the vehicle and the officer attempted to arrest him.
The man then allegedly punched the officer in the face and wrestled him to the ground before placing him in a chokehold.
During the incident, two other officers attended to assist, during which one of the officers was allegedly assaulted while arresting the 58-year-old man.
He was taken to Castle Hill Police Station before being taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment.
The 58-year-old man was returned to Castle Hill Police Station where he was charged with two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty and destroy or damage property.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today.
