A former teacher has appeared in court today charged following an investigation into alleged historical sexual abuse offences committed more than 30 years ago in Sydney's North West.
In June 2022, officers from Kuring Gai Police Area Command established Strike Force Byanbi to investigate reports of multiple sexual assaults which are alleged to have occurred at a public school in St Ives between 1984-1988.
Following extensive inquiries, Hornsby detectives arrested a 68-year-old man at a home in Wagga Wagga yesterday (Wednesday 1 March 2023).
He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with 12 offences, including seven counts of sexual assault (Cat 4) – assault and commit act of indecency, three counts of homosexual intercourse – teacher of pupil, and two counts of buggery.
Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted three boys – who were aged between nine and 12 years old at the time – while they were under his authority as a teacher at the school and during camping trips.
The man appeared before Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Thursday 2 March 2023), where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 26 April 2023.
