Man Charged for Injuring Police Officer in Marrickville

A man will appear in court after a police officer was injured in Sydney's inner west overnight.

About 10.30pm (Monday 13 May 2024), officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended Llewellyn Street, Marrickville, following reports a man was lying on the roadway.

After speaking with a 44-year-old man, police allege he became aggressive and assaulted police.

While attempting to restrain the man, one of the officers – a male constable – suffered an injury to his ankle.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the officer at the scene before taking him to St Vincent's Hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

The man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with two counts assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and three counts custody of knife in public place.

He was refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Tuesday 14 May 2024).
