A man will face court today charged over alleged property and traffic offences following a motorbike pursuit at Newcastle yesterday afternoon.
About 4pm yesterday (Tuesday 11 March 2025), police were patrolling Parry Street, Newcastle West, when they attempted to stop a motorcycle that had been reported stolen.
When the motorcycle failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated, continuing through Hamilton and Adamstown before the motorcycle turned onto the Fernleigh Track.
As a result, the pursuit was terminated, and police commenced a search of the area.
A short time later, the pillion passenger of the motorcycle was located near the Fernleigh Track at Adamstown.
The 21-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station, where further inquiries established the man was allegedly involved in several break and enter offences that occurred on Bruce Street and Kemp Street in The Junction on Monday 6 January 2025 and Tuesday 7 January 2025.
The Lake Macquarie man was subsequently charged with 14 offences:
- Enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence (five counts)
- Break and enter dwelling-house etc with intent (three counts)
- Break and enter house etc steal (three counts)
- Deal with identity info to commit etc indictable offence
- Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and
- Larceny.
He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Wednesday 12 March 2025).
Inquiries to locate the driver of the motorcycle are ongoing.
