Man Charged for Public Display of Offensive Symbol

A man will face court over an abusive behaviour at a public place in Sydney's north.

On Sunday (2 February 2025), officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command commenced an investigation following reports of a man allegedly said racially abusive words at members of public in Northbridge area.

Police were told a man was yelling racially hatred words and made an inappropriate gesture at a licensed premises on Strathallen Avenue, Northbridge, before the security guard asked him to leave.

Following inquiries, today (Tuesday 4 March 2025), police arrested a 40-year-old man in Chatswood.

He was taken to Chatswood Police Station where he was charged with knowingly display by public act Nazi symbol without excuse and make a gesture in a public place that is a Nazi salute.

He was issued a court attendance notice to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday (16 April 2025).

The NSW Police Force takes hate crimes seriously and encourages anyone who is the victim of a hate crime or witnesses a hate crime to report the matter to police through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
