Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after he allegedly stole police uniform items, then brandished an imitation firearm in Malvern East yesterday.
It is alleged a man gained entry into a property in Malvern East and stole police clothing, including shirts and boots, about 3pm on 2 June.
He was confronted by one of the occupants who returned home, then fled the scene on foot.
Police later received reports of a man wearing police uniform and holding what appeared to be a firearm on Warragul Road about 11pm, then on Castlebar Road shortly afterwards.
Uniform Police, Critical Incident Response Team officers, Air Wing and members of the Dog Squad searched the surrounding area but did not locate the man.
Officers were later called to a licensed premises on Dandenong Road in Oakleigh.
A man was allegedly in possession of police uniform items, including a belt with an imitation firearm in it.
The 46-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested at the scene. He's been charged with:
- Burglary
- Theft (x2)
- Prohibited person possess imitation firearm
- Impersonate PSO
He will appear at Moorabbin Magistrates' Court later today.
