Man Charged for Threatening Wollongong Hospital

A man has been charged after a threatening phone call was allegedly made to a hospital yesterday.

Police were called to a hospital on Loftus Street, Wollongong, about 6.50pm (Saturday 1 January 2025), after a threat was made by phone.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and conducted a search of the building, with nothing located.

Following inquiries, police attended a home on Northcliffe Drive, Port Kembla, and arrested a 53-year-old man.

It is alleged during the arrest, the man spat at police.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with use carriage service to make hoax threat, and assault police officer in the execution of their duty.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 18 March 2025.
