Man Charged in $3.2M Tobacco Seizure

A man has been charged after police allegedly seized more than $3.2 million worth of illegal cigarettes and vapes from a truck on the Mid North Coast.

About 10:45pm yesterday (Monday 6 January 2025), officers attached to Forster Highway Patrol stopped a truck on the Pacific Highway, Possum Brush, after it was allegedly detected speeding.

Police searched the rear storage area of the truck and allegedly found illegal cigarettes and nicotine vapes inside boxes.

The driver – a 32-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Forster Police Station.

He was charged with goods in custody, restricted substance sold by non-wholesaler, and exceed speed limit 10k & under.

He was refused bail to appear before Forster Local Court today (Tuesday 7 January 2025).

Police will allege in court there were more than 20,00 individual vapes, and more than 1,600,000 individual cigarettes with an estimated street value of more than $3,200,000
