A man has been charged after a strike force was established to investigate numerous graffiti incidents targeting luxury cars across Sydney's inner west and east this month.

Between Monday 19 August 2024 and Wednesday 28 August 2024, officers from multiple police commands – including Kings Cross, Surry Hills, Eastern Suburbs and Leichhardt – received 87 reports of vehicles damaged with spray paint while parked on public streets.

Officers from Central Metropolitan Region established Strike Force Opelika to investigate the incidents.

Following extensive inquiries and a public appeal, police executed a search warrant at a unit on Pyrmont Bridge Road, Camperdown, about 3pm yesterday (Friday 30 August 2024).

A 49-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with 23 counts of destroy or damage property.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 31 August 2024).
