Man Charged in Detention Centre Drug Ring Bust

Organised Crime Squad detectives have charged a man with drug supply related offences under Strike Force Brevifolia.

Strike Force Brevifolia was established by State Crime Command's Organised Crime Squad and the NSW Crime Commission in May 2024 to investigate a number of criminal networks supplying large commercial quantities of drugs across NSW.

As part of inquiries, detectives – with assistance from Australian Border Force (ABF) – identified a syndicate being run out of an immigration detention centre in Villawood.

In July 2024, two men were charged and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, about 6.05am yesterday (Wednesday 15 January 2025), strike force detectives, with assistance from South West Metropolitan Operational Support Group, executed a search warrant in Homebush West.

At the location, police discovered a large amount of chemicals and drugs and assistance was sought from Drug and Firearms Squad Chemical Operations Unit, Technical and Forensic Support Unit, and NSW Fire & Rescue HAZMAT team to triage the scene.

In total, police seized four kilograms of methylamphetamine, one kilogram of cocaine, approximately 50,000 pseudoephedrine tablets, 25kg of methylamine, 49kg of acetophenone, 5kg of sodium borohydride, $20,000 in cash, five mobile phones and other items relevant to the investigation.

A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drug >indictable & = large commercial quantity, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime and participate criminal group contribute criminal.

The man was refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court today (Thursday 16 January 2025).
