Man Charged in Eastern Suburbs Arson Cases

A man appeared in court today charged over deliberately lit fires in Sydney's east.

About 3.20am on Tuesday 18 March 2025, emergency services were called to Reddy Street, Edgecliff, following reports of a car on fire.

Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended and found a white Mitsubishi SUV well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the fire; however, the vehicle was destroyed.

About 3.30am on the same date, police also located a burnt chair at the intersection of Glenmore Road and Cascade Street, Paddington.

There were no reports of injuries.

Crime scenes were established, and an investigation commenced.

The two incidents are alleged to be linked to another fire on Jersey Road, Paddington about 3.45am on Thursday 19 September 2024.

Following inquiries and a public appeal, a 20-year-old man was arrested after attending Waverley Police Station about 12pm today (Friday 21 March 2025). He was charged with damage property by fire/explosion more than $15000, and two counts of damage property by fire/explosion less than or equal to $2000.

He was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today (Friday 21 March 2025), where he was granted conditional bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 9 April 2025.
