Man Charged in Fatal Shooting by Strike Force Loughrea

A man has been charged as part of an investigation into an alleged fatal shooting in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 6.50pm on Sunday 29 December 2024, emergency services were called to Sutherland Street, Canley Heights, following reports of a shooting.

A 31-year-old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for gunshot wounds; however, he died at the scene.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

A short time later, emergency services were called to an abandoned car on fire on Bathurst Street, Wakeley.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews extinguished the blaze a short time later.

State Crime Command's Homicide Squad with detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command established Strike Force Loughrea to investigate.

About 8am on Monday 30 December 2024, officers attached to Raptor Squad Traffic & Highway Patrol Command stopped a vehicle on Cowpasture Road in Cecil Hills and arrested the driver – a 33-year-old man.

As part of further inquiries, about 8.30am detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in Yass Close in Bossley Park.

The man was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 31 December 2024).

Police will allege in court the man was driving one of the getaway cars used in the offence.

Investigations continue.
