Arson Unit detectives have charged a man over a suspicious fire in Sydney's south-west last year.
About 12.30am on Sunday 5 February 2023, emergency services were called to Roberts Road in Greenacre, following reports of a factory fire.
NSW Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the fire.
Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced initial inquiries, before the matter was taken carriage of by State Crime Command's Financial Crimes Squad Arson Unit under Strike Force Bedel.
Following extensive inquiries about 6.55am yesterday (Thursday 13 March 2024), strike force detectives – with assistance from North West Metropolitan Operational Support Group – executed two search warrants in West Pennant Hills and Croydon.
At the West Pennant Hills address, detectives arrested a 62-year-old man who was taken to The Hills Police Station and charged with dishonestly for gain damage property by fire/explosive.
The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear in Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 9 April 2024.
Police will allege in court the man deliberately lit the fire for the purpose of making an insurance claim and receiving financial compensation.
