Cybercrime Squad detectives have charged a man following an investigation into the alleged unauthorised access of the NSW Department of Community and Justice (DCJ) Online Registry Website under Strike Force Amherst.
Strike Force Amherst was established in March 2025 by State Crime Command's Cybercrime Squad to investigate the unauthorised access to 8,769 restricted documents held by the NSW DCJ Online Registry Website between Wednesday 29 January and Thursday 20 March 2025.
Strike force detectives, working closely with state and commonwealth agencies, identified the source of the compromise as an account linked to a registered user of the ORW.
About 6.30am today (Wednesday 23 April 2025), officers – with assistance from Odin Central Metropolitan Operational Support Group – executed a search warrant in Maroubra.
During the search, police located and seized two laptops.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he was charged with access/modify restricted data held in computer, as well as use carriage service to menace/harass/offend and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal) relating to an outstanding warrant.
The man was refused bail to appear in Waverley Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 24 April 2025).
