A man has been charged over the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman on the Mid North Coast.
Yesterday morning (Wednesday 15 January 2025), a man attended a home on the Mid North Coast where he allegedly detained a woman.
Police will allege in court that the man left a ransom note at the home before forcing the woman into a vehicle and sexually assaulting her.
A ransom was allegedly paid, and the woman was released at Crescent Head about 12pm yesterday (Wednesday 15 January 2025).
Police attached to Mid North Coast Police District were notified a short time later and commenced inquiries into the incident.
About 2pm (Wednesday 15 January 2025), police arrested a 50-year-old man on Main Street, Crescent Head.
He was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault - deprive liberty, aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence - people there, take/detain person with intent to hold to ransom, and demand with menaces intend obtain gain/cause loss.
He was refused bail to appear before Kempsey Local Court today (Thursday 16 January 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday 19 March 2025.
