Man Charged in Newcastle: Firearm, Drugs, Theft

A man will face court today charged over alleged firearm, drug and stealing offences following an incident in Newcastle yesterday.

About 3pm (Wednesday 5 February 2025), plain-clothes police were patrolling Beaumont Street, Hamilton, when they allegedly observed a man on a bicycle stop and rummage through the letterbox of a home.

The officers – attached to the Hunter DV High-Risk Offender Team – attempted to stop the man, who subsequently rode away from the scene on his bicycle.

The man stopped a short time later on Lawson Street where he was arrested by police.

A subsequent search of the man's bag allegedly revealed an imitation firearm, cannabis, and several bank cards believed to have been stolen.

The 47-year-old man was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with larceny, possess unauthorised pistol, possess prohibited drug, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Thursday 6 February 2025).
