Man Charged in Wollongong Pedestrian Death

A man has been charged after a fatal pedestrian crash in the Illawarra.

About 7pm on (Friday 30 August 2024), emergency services were called to Flinders Street Wollongong following reports a pedestrian had been struck by two cars travelling in opposite directions.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 57-year-old man – however, he died at the scene.

The drivers of the vehicles - both men aged 66 and 54 - were taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 11.45am today (Monday 9 September 2024), a 66-year-old man attended Wollongong Police Station. He was arrested and charged with negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on (Tuesday 22 October 2024).
