Man Charged Over Canowindra Public Place Shooting: NSW Police

A man will face court next month following an investigation into a public place shooting earlier this year.

About 10.30pm on 29 February 2024, a group of people attended a home on Lynn Street, Canowindra, to collect belongings of a woman.

When they approached the home, a man allegedly produced a firearm and discharged it before the group fled.

Officers attached to Chifley Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, about 6am yesterday (Tuesday 28 May 2024), investigators attended a home on Lynn Street, Canowindra, and executed a search warrant.

Police located and seized, ammunition, cannabis plants, cannabis seeds, a rifle scope, and a mobile phone.

A 23-year-old man was arrested and taken to Cowra Police Station and charged with:

  • Attempt stalk/intimidate intend fear of harm (personal) (x5)
  • Fire firearm in or near public place
  • Possess unregistered firearm in public place
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Possess prohibited plant
  • Possess prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Cowra Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 28 May 2024), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Tuesday 25 June 2024.
