Man charged over Sydney CBD jewellery store armed robbery

The State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad have charged a man over an alleged armed robbery at a jewellery store in Sydney's CBD earlier this year.

About 6.30pm on Thursday 19 January 2023, the store owner – a 65-year-old man – and a 47-year-old female employee attended the store to assist two male customers with an appointment.

A short time later, one of the men threatened the woman with a knife, while the other man threatened the store owner and demanded access to the store safe.

The man and woman were both restrained before the men fled the store with jewellery.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and initiated inquiries, before the matter was referred to the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad under Strike Force Ingestre.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Rydalmere, where they arrested a 37-year-old man about 7.45am today (Thursday 13 April 2023).

He was taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with aggravated robbery and deprive person of liberty, participate in criminal group contribute criminal activity, and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court later today.

Investigations under Strike Force Ingestre is continuing.
