Man Charged With 13 Firearm, Drug Offences at Lake Illawarra

A man has been charged with firearm and drug offences in the Illawarra region.

About 5.15pm yesterday (Thursday 9 January 2024), officers attached to Southern Region Enforcement Squad stopped a car on Kelly Street, Berkeley.

Police searched the car and seized a firearm.

A 38-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

A short time later, Police executed a search warrant a home in Wentworth Street, Port Kembla.

Police seized three firearms, a ballistic vest, firearms ammunition and drugs.

He was charged with thirteen offences

- aggravated enter dwelling within intent-armed

- use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence

- stalk/intimidate intended fear physical etc harm

- possess loaded firearm public place

- possess prohibited drug (two counts)

- possess > 3 unregistered firearms without licence/permit

- possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority (two counts)

- possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit

- supply prohibited drug >= commercial quantity (two counts)

- recklessly deal with proceeds of crime <=$5000.

He appeared in Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 10 January 2025), where he was formally refused bail to reappear in Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 12 March 2025.
