Man charged with 18 offences following police pursuit, NSW

A man has been charged following an alleged 336km crime spree from the Hunter region to the Southern Tablelands yesterday, NSW Police say.

Between 11pm on Thursday 1 March 2018 and Friday 2 March 2018, police will allege a property in View Street, Cessnock was broken into with car keys, a green Mitsubishi Magna sedan and a mobile phone stolen.

About 9.30am yesterday, the car was spotted travelling south on the Hume Highway at Mittagong, allegedly travelling 160km/h in a 110km/h zone.

Two police pursuits were initiated through the Southern Highlands but terminated for safety reasons.

The car was later recovered in Boxers Creek, 10km north of Goulburn.

About 10pm, a homeowner on Boxers Creek Road, Boxers Creek, called police after allegedly spotting a man armed with a hammer on his property.

Police conducted a search of the area; however, the man was not located.

About 4am today (Saturday 3 March 2018), a home in Boxers Creek Road, Boxers Creek, was broken into and a Holden Commodore was stolen.

About 4.20am, it was spotted by officers from The Hume Police District heading north on the Hume Highway at Towrang.

Another police pursuit was initiated but terminated for safety reasons.

About 5.30am, a 23-year-old man allegedly ran from the Commodore and was arrested following a short foot pursuit near Colo Vale Railway Station.

The vehicle was searched and several items were seized, including a hammer, a trailer registration plate and ammunition.

The man was taken to Bowral Police Station where he was charged with 18 offences, including:

  • Break, enter and steal
  • Aggravated break and enter
  • Illegal use of conveyance (x2)
  • Police pursuit (x4)
  • Exceed speed over 45km/h (x3)
  • Enter enclosed lands
  • Larceny
  • Intimidation
  • Resist arrest
  • Possess ammunition
  • Drive while disqualified (x2)

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Goulburn Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 4 March 2018).
