A man will face court today after allegedly fleeing from police while in possession of a pistol in the Liverpool area yesterday.
About 5.10pm (Thursday 11 July 2024), officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command stopped a Ford SUV travelling on St Johns Road, Busby.
Police will allege as the vehicle stopped, the front passenger of the car – a 20-year-old man – attempted to run from the scene.
Officers attempted to stop the man when he resisted police, and a short struggle ensued before the man was arrested.
The man was searched when police allegedly located a pistol, pistol ammunition and methamphetamine.
The driver of the car – a 27-year-old woman – was also arrested and the pair was taken to Liverpool Police Station.
During a search of the vehicle police located and seized two knives, MDMA and cannabis.
The man was charged with two counts of possess prohibited drug, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, not keep firearm safely pistol, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority and possess unauthorised pistol.
The woman was charged with three counts of possess prohibited drug and custody of knife in public place.
The man was refused bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court today (Friday 12 July 2024), and the woman was granted bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday 31 July 2024.
