Man Charged With Firearm, Drug Offenses in Bathurst

A man has been charged with allegedly possessing a stolen firearms, explosives, and prohibited drugs following an investigation by Bathurst police.

About 11.50pm Saturday (22 February 2025), police stopped a Mercedes sedan driving on Vittoria Street, Bathurst, for a random breath test.

During the stop officers attached to Chifley Police District allegedly located and seized 927 grams of cannabis.

Both the driver – a 38-year-old man – and passenger were arrested; however, the passenger was released shortly after pending further investigations.

The driver was charged with supply prohibited drug and breach of bail, and granted conditional bail to appear before Bathurst Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 26 February 2025).

Following further investigations, about 10am yesterday (Monday 24 February 2025), police executed a search warrant at an industrial unit on Watt Drive, Robin Hill.

During the search warrant, police located and seized two firearms – including a pump action rifle –, 220 grams of cannabis, fireworks and electronic devices.

The combined estimated street value of cannabis seized is $10,000.

Initial inquiries revealed the rifle had allegedly been stolen from a property in Gundagai earlier this month.

Following investigations, police arrested a 38-year-old man at the scene before taking him to Bathurst Police Station.

He was charged with possess unregistered firearm, possess unauthorised firearm, use, supply, acquire, possess stolen firearm or part, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, not keep firearm safely, possess, supply or make explosive for unlawful purpose, and possess prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bathurst Local Court today (Tuesday 25 February 2025).
