Man Charged With Murder in Newnham Wounding

A man will appear in court this morning charged with murder following a wounding incident at Newnham yesterday.

Police and emergency services were called to a private residence in Tompsons Lane about 2.45pm after reports a man had been stabbed following an altercation between two people known to each other.

The victim – a 42 year old Mowbray man – was taken to the Launceston General Hospital with serious injuries, however has since died.

A man was quickly taken into custody at the scene, and was last night charged with murder.

The 27 year old Newnham man was detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court this morning.

There was no threat to the wider community.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
