A seventh person has been charged following an investigation into the death of a man in Roselands earlier this year.
In February this year, detectives attached to Campsie Police Area Command – assisted by the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad – established Strike Force Poton to investigate the stabbing death of a 24-year-old man in Roselands on Thursday 23 February 2023.
The man has since been formally identified as Ghassan Long.
During the course of the investigation, six people have been charged and remain before the courts.
Following further investigations, shortly before 7am yesterday (Tuesday 19 December 2023), strike force detectives – assisted by South West Metro Operational Support Group – attended a home in Punchbowl, where they arrested a 21-year-old man.
He was taken to Campsie Police Station and charged with murder, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, and dishonestly obtain property by deception.
Police will allege the Punchbowl man stabbed the 24-year-old during a brawl with a number of people.
He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Wednesday 20 December 2023).
Investigations under Strike Force Poton are continuing.
