Man Charged With Murder in Wollongong by Strike Force Alleppo

A man will face court today charged with murder following the death of another man in Wollongong.

About 7.20am yesterday (Sunday 12 May 2024), emergency services were called to carpark on Station Street, Wollongong, following reports a man's body had been found in a stairwell.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District arrived to find the body of 68-year-old man.

Detectives from Wollongong Police District commenced Strike Force Alleppo, assisted by detectives from State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, to investigate the death.

Police established a crime scene closing Wollongong station carpark, this closure is expected to remain in place today (Monday 13 May 2024).

Following inquiries strike force detectives arrested a 37-year-old man on Crown Street, Wollongong, about 10.40am the same day.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with murder.

The 37-year-old was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today.
