A man is now facing murder charges after the death of a woman who was stabbed at Gilberton last week, according to SA Police.

Just before midnight on Tuesday 18 April, police and ambulance crews were called to a group of units at James Street at Gilberton following a disturbance between several people.

On police arrival, they found a woman unconscious in the bathroom, bleeding heavily from a serious stab wound to the upper left leg.

Ambulance officers treated the 38-year-old woman at the scene for some time, before she was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Sadly, the woman died in hospital on Thursday evening.

A 38-year-old man at the scene was also treated for head injuries, after he was also allegedly punched several times by the same suspect.

After speaking with witnesses, a 41-year-old man of no fixed place, who was found at the scene and known to the injured woman and man, was arrested. Following the woman’s death, his charges have now been upgraded to murder and aggravated cause harm.

He is due to face court again on Thursday 27 April.
