Man Charged With Sexually Touching Woman On Train

A man will face court today charged with allegedly sexually touching a woman without her consent on a Westmead train under Operation Waratah.

Operation Waratah was established in July 2024 by officers attached to Police Transport Command to target offenders involved in violent crimes, including assaulting elderly passengers, intimidating public transport workers or touching women without consent.

About 12am on Tuesday 6 February 2024, officers attached to Police Transport Command were called to Westmead Railway Station, following reports a man had allegedly touched a woman in an inappropriate manner.

Police arrived and were told the man had allegedly touched a woman's foot and back without consent before rubbing himself against her in a sexual manner.

Following extensive investigations and a public appeal, police arrested a 35-year-old man at a business in Enfield yesterday (Thursday 25 July 2024).

The man was charged with sexually touch another person without consent, wilfully interfere with comfort or safety of others, common assault, travel or attempt to travel without valid ticket and drink alcohol on bus, ferry, train or in public area.

The man was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Friday 26 July 2024).

Investigations under Operation Waratah continue.
