Man Charged with Traffic, Property Crimes

A man has been charged following an investigation into offences alleged to have occurred on the Mid North Coast and Coffs Coast since January 2025.

Earlier this year, officers began investigating property and traffic offences they believed were linked.

The offences dated back to Saturday 25 January 2025, when a car was allegedly stolen from a home in Frederickton.

On Tuesday 4 February 2025 and Friday 7 February 2025, further offences were allegedly committed in the Coffs Harbour area, including a stolen motor vehicle and a subsequent police pursuit.

About 4.20am on Tuesday 11 February 2025, police were called to River Street, Woolgoolga, after three businesses were allegedly broken into.

A 47-year-old woman, who was inside one of the businesses at the time, was allegedly assaulted, and taken to hospital for the treatment of lacerations.

Following extensive inquiries, police attended a home on Gordon Nixon Avenue, West Kempsey, about 2pm yesterday (Sunday 9 March 2025).

Upon the arrival of police, a man allegedly jumped from a window of the home and was chased by officers across several neighbouring backyards.

An 18-year-old man was arrested a short time later before being taken to Kempsey Police Station.

There he was charged with 28 offences,

  • Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal (four counts)
  • Class A motor vehicle exceed speed greater than 45 km/h - estimated (three counts)
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (three counts)
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner (two counts)
  • Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal (two counts)
  • Attempt aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal (two counts)
  • Robbery armed with offensive weapon (two counts)
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier
  • Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
  • Robbery in company cause wounding/grievous bodily harm
  • Armed with intent commit indictable offence
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm
  • Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty
  • Commit s114 offence, having previous conviction, and
  • Commit s109(1) offence and disseminate.

He was refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Monday 10 March 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before a children's court on Wednesday 9 April 2025.
