A man has died in hospital following a crash near Bathurst earlier this month.
About midday on Sunday 2 February 2025, emergency services were called to Ophir Road, Rock Forest, approximately 20km north-west of Bathurst, with reports of a car crash.
Upon arrival, emergency services found a car had hit a tree and caught fire on impact, setting surrounding bushland alight.
The occupants of the vehicle – two men, aged 62 and 19 – were dragged from the burning vehicle by a man from a neighbouring property who took them to a nearby home and rendered first aid.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the men for serious burns before the younger man was taken by road ambulance to Bathurst Airport, where he was then airlifted to a Sydney hospital for further treatment.
The older man was airlifted from the crash site to a Sydney hospital, with both men reportedly in a serious condition.
Officers from Chifley Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU).
On Monday 17 February 2025, police were notified the 62-year-old man had died in a Sydney hospital.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Inquiries into the crash are ongoing.
