Man Dies After House Fire - Kingswood

A man has died in hospital after a house fire in Sydney's west earlier in the week.

About 6:55am on Tuesday 6 August 2024, a 71-year-old man was taken to Nepean Hospital in a critical condition following a house fire on Orth Street, Kingswood.

Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the fire which was believed to be deliberately lit.

Following inquiries, a 63-year-old man was arrested nearby at 3.15pm and taken to Nepean hospital for medical treatment.

After being discharged from hospital, the man was taken to Penrith police station where he was charged with damage property by fire with intent to injure, damage property by fire and reckless grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Penrith Local Court on Wednesday 7 August 2024.

The matter remains before the courts.

About 9pm yesterday (Saturday 10 August 2024), the 71-year-old man died in hospital.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
