Man Dies After Police Shooting In Wentworthville

A man has died following a police shooting in Wentworthville last week.

About 12.10pm Friday 4 October 2024, officers attached to the Cumberland Police Area Command were called to Lane Street, Wentworthville, responding to reports a stolen vehicle was at that location.

When police entered an underground car park of a unit block, the stolen vehicle was allegedly driven at them.

Police discharged their firearms, injuring two men inside the stolen car.

The officers immediately rendered first aid until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital with one – a 26-year-old man – being taken in critical condition and the other – a 34-year-old man – being taken in a serious but stable condition.

The police officers were not physically injured.

The 26-year-old man has since died in hospital today (Wednesday 9 October 2024).

A critical incident team from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad with the assistance of South West Metropolitan Region is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation is also subject to an independent review.
