Man dies and passenger/observer injured in boat crash, NSW

A man has died and his female observer has suffered serious injuries in a boat crash at a ski race event on the New South Wales/Victorian border, NSW Police say.

Shortly before 1.30pm today emergency services were called to the Murray River, near Torrumbarry Weir following reports of a ski race boat towing two skiers had crashed.

A driver of the ski-race boat, a 50-year-old man, died at the scene.

An observer in the ski-race boat, a 26-year-old woman, sustained a neck injury and was airlifted and taken to Bendigo Base Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

The two skiers being towed by the involved boat were uninjured.

Officers from Deniliquin Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
