Man dies in hospital after crash at Inverell

A motorcycle rider has died in hospital following a crash with a vehicle in the state's north last week.

About 9.30pm on Thursday (13 May 2021), emergency services were called to the intersection of Urabatta Street and Bannockburn Road, Inverell, following reports a motorcycle and Mitsubishi Pajero had collided.

The rider, a 20-year-old man, was ejected and suffered critical head, hip and leg injuries.

He was taken to Inverell Hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being flown to Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition.

The occupants of the Pajero – the 51-year-old male driver and a 21-year-old man - were not injured.

The driver was taken to Inverell Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from New England Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

On Friday (14 May 2021), police were notified that the 20-year-old man died in hospital.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
