Man dies, second injured after public place shooting at Hurstville

An investigation is underway after a man died and another was wounded following a shooting in Sydney's south overnight.

About 11.00pm (Saturday 30 January 2021), officers from St George Police Area Command responded to reports of gunshots being fired in the vicinity of a carpark on Macmahon Street, Hurstville.

Police located a Mercedes stopped nearby with two men suffering gunshot wounds inside.

The injured men were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital, where a 35-year-old man died.

The second man, aged 23, remains in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been established, which is being examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives from St George Police Area Command, assisted by the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, have established Strike Force Datos to investigate the circumstances of the shooting.
