Man in Court for Child Abuse Material in Sydney CBD

A man will face court over the possession of child abuse material following investigations into an 'up skirting' incident in the Sydney CBD last month.

About 1pm on Wednesday 26 February 2025 officers from Sydney City Police Area Command responded to reports of a man being detained by members of the public at the intersection of Castlereagh and Market Streets, Sydney.

It will be alleged the man had filmed the private parts of a woman not known to him at a nearby shopping centre.

The 59-year-old man was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with intentionally record intimate image without consent.

Later that evening a search warrant was executed at the mans home in Elizabeth Bay where a number of electronic devices were seized to undergo forensic examination.

Following examination of these devices five additional charges of possess child abuse material were laid last Thursday (13 March 2025).

The man is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (Wednesday 19 March 2025).
