Man in critical condition after Toorak crash

A man has been critically injured following a high-speed crash involving a stolen car in Toorak overnight.

Emergency services were called to the single vehicle crash on Toorak Road, between Power Avenue and Glenferrie Road, about 11.40pm.

It is believed the driver was travelling at high speed when he lost control and struck a concrete divider at a tram stop.

It appears the Jaguar sedan continued on before it became airborne and crashed into a large tree.

As a result, the vehicle split in half and the driver was ejected.

The driver, believed aged in his 30s, has been taken to hospital with critical injuries and is under police guard.

Investigating officers believe the vehicle was stolen from a property in Phoenix Street during a suspected aggravated burglary shortly before the crash.
