Man in critical condition after truck collides with car in Derby

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision which has left a man with critical injuries in Derby last night.

It's believed a small orange truck crashed into the rear of a green Jeep SUV that was parked on the east side of the Calder Highway, between Bridgewater and Marong, about 6pm on 30 November.

The driver and sole occupant of the Jeep, a 44-year-old Queensland man, was ejected from his vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries.

He was then airlifted to a Melbourne hospital.

The driver of the orange truck, a 25-year-old Melton West man, was taken to hospital for observation and is assisting police with enquiries.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined and detectives are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the orange truck travelling on the Calder Highway, between Bridgewater and Marong, prior to the crash to come forward.
