Man In Custody After Body Found At Wollongong

A man has been arrested as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body at Wollongong this morning.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District were called Station Street about 7.20am (Sunday 12 May 2024), where the body of a man was located.

While he has yet to be formally identified, police believe he is a local man aged 68. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in coming days to determine cause of death and confirm identity.

Officers established a crime scene while detectives from Wollongong PD commenced inquiries, assisted by the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.

About 10:40am, police arrested a 37-year-old man. He has been taken to Wollongong Police Station as inquiries continue.
