Man In Custody After Reports Of Shots Fired At Austral

A man is in custody and police are searching for a second man after an alleged public place shooting in Sydney's south west.

About 11.05pm yesterday (Thursday 25 July 2024), police were called to Sixteenth Avenue, Austral, following reports gunshots had been heard in the vicinity.

A short time later, police received further reports a vehicle had crashed on Craik Avenue, before two men ran from the scene.

On arrival, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command found bullet casings and a fuel cannister inside the abandoned vehicle.

Enquiries revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen.

With assistance from the Dog Unit, an empty pistol magazine was found on Seventeenth Avenue.

Police located a 30-year-old man on Fourth Avenue, about 11.35pm.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he is assisting police with inquiries.

At this time, there are no reports of injuries and no damage to property has been found.
