A man has been taken to hospital and is in a critical condition following an arrest in Hoppers Crossing this morning.
The 35-year-old Hoppers Crossing man was approached by police in the carpark of a convenience store at the corner of Heaths and Tarneit roads, about 2am on 15 July.
Officers attempted to speak with the man in relation to traffic matters when he became physically aggressive and wrestled with police.
At this early stage it appears the man became unresponsive following his arrest.
Police immediately called for medical assistance and performed CPR on the man, who has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the incident with oversight from Professional Standards Command as per standard practice where someone is seriously injured in police custody.
