Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal hit-run crash in Tresco this morning, Victoria Police say.
A car with three occupants was travelling along Tresco West Road when it swerved to avoid a fallen tree, running off the road and hitting another tree about 7am.
The backseat male passenger has died at the scene.
A second male passenger has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police attended and after making some enquiries were made aware that the driver had fled the scene of the crash.
A search was conducted of the area however the driver was unable to be located.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are en route to the scene and will investigate the crash.
Anyone that may have seen or picked someone up in the area is urged to speak to police.
