NSW Police will be applying for a man to be extradited from the ACT after he was arrested on an outstanding warrant for allegedly stealing a police vehicle and assaulting an officer near Queanbeyan on Friday.
About 2.20am (Friday 7 March 2025), officers from Monaro Police District were called to Malbon Street, Bungendore, following reports of a break and enter at a business.
Upon arrival, police attended and found a man inside the premises.
Officers attempted to arrest the man and a struggle ensued, during which the man allegedly punched an officer in the head. The officer discharged a Taser; however, it was ineffective.
The man got into a nearby marked police vehicle and conducted a U-turn, before he allegedly drove towards the two constables.
One of the constables discharged their firearm, hitting the passenger door of the police car.
The man allegedly drove from the scene in the police vehicle towards the ACT.
Following inquiries, the police vehicle was recovered by ACT Police at the intersection of Canberra Avenue and Geelong Street, Fyshwick. No property was missing from the vehicle.
About 9.40am today (Sunday 9 March 2025), ACT Police officers arrested a 24-year-old man inside a car parked on Rosenthal Street, Campbell.
The man is expected appear before the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday 10 March 2025) where an extradition will be sought.
Investigations into the incident continue.
