Man On Hop, Arrested With Mop, Brought To Stop

Police arrested a man armed with a metal pole and a mop in Carlton overnight.

Officers responded to reports of a man wielding a pole, a mop and smashing windows on Lygon Street about midnight.

When police arrived the man flat out refused to speak to officers and continued to wield the pole and mop.

The man became increasingly aggressive towards police.

The dog squad assisted in cleaning up the incident and the man dropped the mop and pole.

He was arrested and taken to hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries, where he remains under police guard.

The 37-year-old man will be interviewed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
