Man Rescued After Falling Overboard Near Stanley

A man and woman both in their sixties have been rescued this morning after their vessel's engine failed leaving them stranded in rough seas off the north-west coast near Stanley.

The woman raised the alarm about 9.00am after the man fell overboard while tending to the vessel's engine during adverse weather conditions.

Police coordinated a swift response, assisted by members of the local community, and the pair were located and brought to safety around 9.45am.

The man was transported to Smithton Hospital in a stable condition for observation and the woman was uninjured.

Initial investigations revealed the man was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

Acting Inspector Martin Parker emphasised the importance of water safety saying "this incident serves as a reminder of the need to be prepared and vigilant when heading out on the water."

"Always check the weather conditions before heading out, ensure your safety equipment is in good working order, and wear a life jacket at all times."

"We are very grateful for the members of the public who assisted in the rescue of the pair."
