Man rundown in DV-related attack - Telopea

A man is due to appear in court today charged with attempted murder after he allegedly deliberately ran down another man in Telopea at the weekend.

Police have been told a 30-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 70-year-old man at their family home on The Parade about 3.40pm Sunday (31 January 2021), before dragging the older man outside onto the nature strip where he kicked him in the face.

The younger man briefly left the scene in a car, before returning a short time later when he allegedly drove at the older man, the impact throwing him 3m-4m.

The man was knocked unconscious and suffered multiple injuries.

The younger man then left the scene on foot before forcing his way into a home on Honiton Avenue, Carlingford, where he allegedly caused more than $50,000 damage by smashing furniture and a window.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command arrived on scene soon after. It is alleged that a struggle ensued where one of the officers were also assaulted during the man's arrest.

The man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment for cuts to his head.

He was released into police custody about midday yesterday (Monday 1 February 2021), and was taken to Chatswood Police Station where he was charged with attempted murder (DV), break and enter to commit malicious damage, and assault police.

The man was bail refused to appear before Central Local Court today (Tuesday 2 February 2021).

The older man remains in hospital being treated for multiple injuries.
