A man was injured in a hunting accident near Barmera yesterday afternoon, according to SA Police.
It has been reported to police that three family members were out hunting on private property at Overland Corner, near Barmera at 3.30pm on Sunday 1 October. A woman and a man were riding in the back of the ute, while another man drove. When the ute braked suddenly, the woman accidentally discharged a .22 rifle, hitting the other man in the rear of the ute in the right ankle.
The 27-year-old man was taken to the Berri Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.
Police attended the scene, interviewed all parties and seized the firearm for examination. All firearms from the property were also seized, pending the outcome of the investigation.
SAPOL's Firearms Branch have been notified.
This incident highlights the dangers of shooting from a moving platform. Do not load or action any firearm in the back of a ute until the vehicle has stopped and you have safely identified the target.
