A man who allegedly had not held a licence since 1995 was among those arrested during a five-day operation by Strike Force Puma targeting roads in the Monaro Police District, NSW Police say.
Strike Force Puma was established this year to target high risk traffic offenders and disqualified drivers.
Among those arrested were -
• About 10.55am on Friday September 28, police stopped a Subaru liberty travelling on Cooma Street Queanbeyan, for a random breath test, It will be alleged that when the man was asked to produce his licence he was unable to do so. Further inquiries at the scene revealed the man had not held a licence since 1995. The 45-year-old Queanbeyan man also returned a positive result to his roadside drug test. He was prohibited from driving for 24 hours. A further sample will be sent for laboratory analysis to determine if legal action will be taken. He was charged at Queanbeyan Police Station with driving without a licence (never held). After being granted conditional bail he will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on 22 October.
• A 30-year-old Queanbeyan man, who is allegedly disqualified from driving until 2036, will face court later this month after being allegedly found behind the wheel of a car. Just before 5.45pm on Friday 28 September 2018, Strike Force Puma personnel detected an unregistered and uninsured Holden Commodore being driven along Southbar Road at Karabar. The man who was driving the sedan was arrested and charged with driving whilst disqualified, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving uninsured vehicle and drive vehicle with road tax not paid. He was granted bail and will appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on 22 October 2018.
• At 5.15pm on Saturday the 29th of September 2018, police attached to Strike Force Puma detected a black BMW with ACT registration plates allegedly belonging to another vehicle, being driven along Carinya Street, Queanbeyan. A 33-year-old Queanbeyan man, who is disqualified from driving until 23 July 2019, was arrested and charged with driving whilst disqualified, drive unregistered vehicle, drive uninsured vehicle, two counts of goods in custody suspected of being stolen (not motor vehicle), possess prohibited weapon and possession of a knife in a public place. He will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on 5 November 2018. A 25-year-old Queanbeyan woman was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on 7 November 2018 charged with the offences of possession a knife in a public place and possession of a prohibited weapon. It will be alleged that both of them were seen driving the BMW at various times.
