Can you remember a recent weather event that has captured your attention - strong winds, high tides, heavy or unseasonal storms, dry or hot spells?
Bayside's coastal and marine environment will continue to be impacted by the climate emergency. Our foreshore provides a wide range of recreational, economic and lifestyle opportunities for the community. These are supported by facilities, infrastructure and management initiatives to maintain our beaches and foreshore, preserve areas of cultural importance, and protect and enhance the sensitive and unique environment.
Our planning and preparedness for future events are guided by current data, science, and government policy and legislation. Led by Victorian Government legislation (Marine and Coastal Act 2018 and the Marine and Coastal Policy 2020), we have prepared the new Bayside Coastal and Marine Management Plan (CMMP) to guide sustainable management of Bayside's marine and coastal environment over the next 10 years. The CMMP will replace the Bayside Coastal Management Plan 2014.
The CMMP aims to balance social, cultural, environmental and economic values and will strategically prioritise competing demands. It provides an action plan to sustainably manage Bayside's coastal and marine environment, and provides direction on the roles, responsibilities, future use and management of Bayside's coastal and marine areas.
We are seeking community feedback on the draft CMMP to help identify risks and issues not yet considered, and opportunities to improve the plan (in consideration of legislated constraints), to support a healthy and sustainable foreshore and coastline.
