Murrindindi Shire Council is reviewing and updating its Road Asset Management Plan (RAMP), to guide how Council-managed roads and road assets are created, maintained, renewed and upgraded over the next decade and beyond.
Council is seeking input from the community on all aspects of road asset management to help develop our draft RAMP 2023-2033. Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from members of the community to join our Roads Advisory Group (RAG). The RAG will provide community views during the development of Council's Road Asset Management Plan which will cover:
- inspection, maintenance, and repair standards
- renewal, and asset rehabilitation priorities
- upgrade and expansion priorities
- willingness from the community to pay for changes to the standard of service provided
By joining the RAG, people will be able to represent their local community on issues and decisions on road asset management. They'll also learn more about Council's decision-making processes and the challenges faced in providing equitable services across five major townships and 42 smaller localities.
People can also complete a survey to help influence how the roads are managed. The survey can be completed both online and in person at the Library and Customer Service Centres in Alexandra, Yea and Kinglake, as well as the Mobile Library.
Feedback on the current condition of the road network is encouraged and can be done by visiting Council's online engagement platform, The Loop, where an interactive map will assist in recording road related issues.
Murrindindi Shire Council Mayor John Walsh said "Creating, maintaining and upgrading roads and road assets is costly. Our aim in developing our RAMP 2023-2033 will be to strike the right balance between asset quality and affordability, while ensuring equity across the Shire. Council only collects around 60% of its total revenue from rates, with most of our remaining income being received from highly competitive state and federal government grants. Community completion of the survey and participation in the development of the RAMP will aid Council in advocating for improved road safety, functionality, and resilience".
